Hilo Rocks! Hilo Part II (April 4-6)

Aloha folks. I make my return to Hilo. Enjoy the adventure!

The first pic just shows that my flight was delayed. We didn't take flight till almost 45 mins later. Upon landing, I went to Manono Marketplace to get drinks, eventually hit my airbnb which was close by, and then back to the marketplace for ramen. Good ramen at Tetsumen

Kalapana

I actually drove around here. Lots of people actually building their homes on the dried lava. I wanted to do some photography but it does feel weird to take pics of homes so I respected people and their privacies for the most part. Although I couldn't say much for the first house since its close to the entrance. The roads get bumpier here so drive it slow. It's also one lane in some areas so be mindful. It does seem like some people come here simply to take a look. There are pictures of these online if you want a broader scope of how the area looks. Miles and miles of dried lava.

Somewhere along the drive

End of the road

Pretty much if you go further than Issac Hale Beach, the road ends. The roads in Kalapana are just filled with lava roads and rocks. At the end of the road, it's such a shame some people just had to drink and leave their broken beer bottles all over. It looks like you can hike it if you want but it probably just damage your shoes in the process.

Issac Hale Beach

there is no end of black sand beaches in the Kalapana area.

Somewhere around a hippie area in Kalapana.

Lava Tree monument

I remember being here back in 2010. There wasn't a paved trail and the area I recall was more murkier and full of mosquitoes. Now it's a nicely decorated trail and very presentable.

Sunset at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park - Thurston Lava Tube and overlook

It was a good experience. Finally got to check out the Thurston Lava tube after all this time. Its a quick tunnel hike. The overlook the park rangers are allowing you to see requires a 20-30 min walk to the overlook and another round of those minutes going back. Popular tourist attraction now no doubt. If you have the National Park annual pass, you can use it here.

Hilo Burger joint

I figured why not?

Waipio Valley

Waipio Valley lookout is accessible to the public but the hike down to the valley is no longer permissible unless there is a local that lives down there that is willing to bring you there. Too much tourist damage to the roads and lands. Sad. Another black sand beach waiting for you down there.

Last breakfast in Hilo and return to Oahu. Pic of the car that brought me places. Not bad for a mid-size car. Smooth driving really.

End story. Thank you for viewing. Have a nice day and thank you Jesus for another safe return to Hilo and back.

There is a story behind this but I won't divulge into it. You can look this up online. I finally got a chance to check this place out. A very nice scenery with a small parking lot. Also folks, try to park in a fashion where others can park and enjoy the view as well. There was a car that literally, in a sense, double parked (took up lots of space) forcing me to nearly park near an edge. Please be courteous to others. We want to enjoy the view and grab memories as well. Sunset Beach     A shot under the tree A shot under the tree: the opposite direction   As you enter the beach, to your right is the famous 100 year old tree that everybody sits and takes a pic with despite a sign telling you to not sit on it. Fairbanks, Alaska 3/6-3/9

Here was the ender to my trip before my return to HNL. First time to Alaska and hopefully it won't be my last. Santa Claus House Possibly the best place to shop for gifts if you are near here. It's about 20-25 mins south of Fairbanks. Antler Arch The museums here are free. Take advantage. The arch was close by as well. Ice Museum Fairbanks $15. Good for family, couple, or group pics. Regardless, there is a slide here that is worth the admission. Around the area, there is a Moldovan restaurant named Soba. It was my first time and worth the try! Pioneer Park Closed during these times, its a neat touristy spot to walk your legs. You can walk inside but most shops and attractions are closed however. Come during summer.  Pikes Waterfront Lodge This was the place where I initially wanted to stay at first but Airbnb often provide cheaper results. The Love Alaska sign is here and there are some ice sculptures as well. I say this is the hotel that is worth a see if you are here. My ...

Makiki Valley secret waterfall Oahu hikes

Because it's considered a secret I can not divulge how to get there. If you recognize some of the landmarks in my pics, then it should be good enough to tell you where it is. The waterfall is found in Makiki Valley loop trail so good luck. It is roughly about 20-30 mins in from the entrance. I did this with the meetup.com crew. So enjoy the pics.  If you find it then good for you. And remember to keep it a secret.  The waterfall Enjoy. It's a nice scene if you do find it. You can hike to the top of the fall in which I did. It's like several minutes if anything from the bottom. Just always watch your footing. Take care folks. Thank you God and thank you to the meetup.com crew. Laters.
